Brighton Marathon April 10th 2011
Firstly a big 'thank you' to our runners for 2010 and all those who supported them. It was a great success all round, for Leo House, Brighton Marathon and Brighton itself.
Enrtries for the 2011 Brighton Marathon are now closed. However if you want to take part in the 2012 marathon please contact us for more information. In this case we are asking people to raise at least £500 for us, and remember 98p in every pound goes directly to helping the children we look after.
Our runners so far are:

Jan Hitam is a keen golfer but hasn't done any serious running for many years. He practices his runnning by running between shots on the golf course! Amazingly he will be 73 by the time of the marathon. Over the last 14 years he has suffered from from cancer and wants to make a effort to help others who are not well.
Mar
k Howarth was first encouraged to run long distances whilst at the gym one day and a rather attractive girl next to me suggested we run for 40minutes, always up for a challenge he agreed and they ended up running for an hour, he then turned into Forrest Gump and kept challenging himself to run for longer and longer. He tried 5 times before getting into the London Marathon and has now run in three; 2006, 2008 & 2009 and his challenge now is to break the 4 hour barrier. The training is never easy with upto 50 miles a week but the rewards are fantastic and he is looking forward to running the Brighton Marathon for Leo House. www.justgiving.com/Mwhowarth
Des
Fitzpatrick lives in Burgess Hill, and married to Sarah and has a 14 year-old daughter, Emma. Des works in London as a civil servant and is an active member of Burgess Hill Theatre Club. He has thought about running a marathon for a long time but had never previously done anything about it. When he found out about the fantastic work that Leo House do and saw that he could help by running the Brighton marathon to raise money for them, he decided that it’s about time he stopped thinking about running a marathon and actually do something about it. He's now looking forward to raising as much money as he can! (follow Des' progress here)

Jackie Freeman has always wanted to a marathon and it been on her long list of will do!!! She really wants to get fit again as well and it seemed a great opportunity and focus for this. She is really pleased to be running for Leo House. www.justgiving.com/Jacks-runrun.
Martin Warters,is running for Leo House at Homebecausehe thinks it is such a worthwhile local charity. He have been living in Brighton for 3 years now, butthey are relocating to America at the end of this year. Brighton has been fantastic to them, and he wanted to have the opportunity to give something back to the local community. The work of Leo House is amazing and he feel privileged to be able to help in a small way
Mark Waghorn, has always wanted to run a marathon and but has never got round to it. He does try and keep reasonably fit and he thought about the Brighton Marathon last year but it was around the time when his son, Leo was due so he wanted to be around as much as possible for his wife Nickey. This yearhe finally gave himself a kick up the backside and decided to sign up. He looked through the various charities that had places available and saw that not only does Leo House work for a very good cause but he also had a (all be it tenious) link through my son.
Trevor Martin, requested to run for Leo House was because he believes (rightly!) that the money will help children and their parents who are local. The plight of having a sick child is very difficult for all concerned and he wanted to make some small personal contribution. "Raising money for such a fantastic cause will be an inspiration over the last few miles on race day" he hopes!
He tried to run for Leo House last year but all places were taken, this year he obtained a ticket direct so was able to us for you anyway!

The 2011 course will take in the best parts of the city centre and fabulous stretches of coastal road, including panoramic views that you’d expect where the glorious South Downs meet the English Channel.
Generally, the course will be fast, held exclusively on roads and tarmac promenade. The entire route will be free of traffic and where necessary, there will of course be barriers and/or tape separating runners from pedestrians, street furniture and other potential hazards.
Of course there will some undulations in the route, principally in the first half of the race, while the second half will be very flat. The Finish is in Madeira Drive, just east of the famous Brighton Pier. The last mile being along the seafront road alongside thousands of cheering spectators.
